The Fade Entry

Watch the price action at the edge of the boundary to identify exhaustion. The methodology described at orb trading entries leavenly captures these specific moments where momentum fails. A trader monitors the opening range to spot when an initial push loses its strength. This intraday approach relies on the failure of a breakout to sustain its velocity.

The Mechanics of Exhaustion

A fade entry occurs when the price pushes toward the session high but the volume and velocity decrease. This is not a blind guess against a trend. It is a mechanical response to a lack of follow through. During the first hour, price often attempts to extend beyond the established boundaries. If the candle bodies shrink and the wicks grow longer, the counter-trend setup is forming. A failure to clear the fifteen minute range with heavy volume suggests the move is exhausted. The entry happens as the price turns back toward the mean.

Identifying the Range Boundary

The specific timeframe chosen dictates the sensitivity of the fade. Using a thirty minute range provides a wider buffer, while a 5 minute chart offers more frequent but noisier signals. The goal is to find a price level that has been tested multiple times without a significant breakout. When the price approaches this level during regular trading hours, the lack of new buyers or sellers creates the opportunity. A sudden spike in volume that results in a small candle body indicates a heavy absorption of orders at that level.

Execution and Momentum

Wait for a candle to close back inside the established boundary before placing the order. A price that lingers at the edge without moving forward is a sign of a stalling engine. The fade is taken when the momentum shifts from the direction of the breakout to the direction of the range. If the opening bell saw a massive push upward, the fade is a short position taken as price fails to hold new highs. The momentum must be visibly diminishing on the intraday charts to validate the trade.

Risk and Stop Placement

Placement of the stop loss remains above the recent swing high or the boundary level itself. A small sample overstates the edge if the stop is too tight. If the price breaks the boundary and stays there, the fade has failed. The trade is exited once the price reaches the midpoint of the range or the opposite boundary. Success requires disciplined adherence to the mechanical rules of the setup. Relying on the failure of the opening range breakout provides a clear structure for both entry and exit.
